About Us

United Southwest Neighbors

United Southwest Neighbors, organized by African Cultural Alliance of North America(ACANA), serves the historic and diverse neighborhoods of Southwest Philadelphia. Members include households, religious institutions and businesses based in Southwest Philadelphia, unified by their dedication to the preservation and revitalization of the community including responsible development and land use that promotes progress while respecting the diverse cultures, traditions, health, safety and way of life of our residents.

African Cultural Alliance of North America (ACANA)

ACANA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1999 to assist African and Caribbean immigrants who lacked sufficient access to social benefits, education, health care, economic development opportunities and cultural events.  Services have since expanded to include commercial corridor management, small business support, immigration and legal services, affordable housing development and land stewardship and preservation. ACANA has grown to become one of Southwest Philadelphia’s most trusted community organizations serving all of its residents regardless of national origin.
